The Taste of the Tetons

1/6 to 1/9/2023 – I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to poke around in quite a few of the mountain ranges of the North American west, but for some unclear reason I have always just driven past the Tetons. My younger self idealized classic steep skiing there and certainly put it on pedestal of world class locations I yearned to ski, but patience pays off it seems. When the opportunity to join Jeremy, Sale, George, Hillary, and Tom (and to see Gabby) down there for a new years trip came up last year I couldn’t resist the pull to these mountains any longer. Conditions lined up about as ideal as we could ask for with the Teton trickle in full effect and exclusively stable boot-top (or better) powder skiing on everything we looked at!

Jeremy and Sale had been down for a week or so beforehand and were able to get a great feeling for the snowpack, slowly stepping out each day and sniffing out when/where the goods ought to be lining up. Additionally, Gabby provided invaluable intuitive input about what she had seen and heard for the entire season leading up to that point. These two key factors allowed us to show up and hop into classic Teton terrain in a more calculated manner. We did get lucky with the conditions we found and it really felt like the Tetons opened their arms to us (except for Buck but backing off something early set a good precedence for the remainder of the trip)… After a few days of premium touring with the finest of partners I felt that the hook was set and hot-diggity-dog I’ll certainly come back for more of that Teton magic.
